is PhpBB?
PhpBB is an open-source, friendly, easy to use bulletin-board/forum. PhpBB is the most widely used forum on the internet. It has an easy to use admin interface, where you can change a lot of settings.
Before you start
This guide shows you, step by step, how to install phpBB. You will need a webhost or server with php support; preferably the newest version. No lower than version 4. You must either have a knowledge of MySQL or have PhpMyAdmin installed on your website.

Downloading
Go to phpbb.com and download the compressed files
Extract
Extract them into a folder on your website.
Beginning installation
Open a web browser and go to the folder you extracted them to. Eg. http://www.yourwebsite.com/phpbb. This should open the PhpBB introduction page. Click on the tab which says "INSTALL". Click "proceed to next step". You should now have a list of different things which are required and which databases you have installed. You must make sure the permissions for the files it asks for are set to writable. Also because this guide is using MySQL databases you must make sure that it is available. Click proceed to next step.
Creating a Database
Create a database with PhpMyAdmin named phpbb. Log in and select the field which says "create new database" and type phpbb leave the type as it's default - collation. Click on create then go back to the PhpBB setup.
Change database type to MySQL. Leave database server hostname and port blank. Put phpbb in the "database name" field. Add your username and password. Type phpbb_ in the prefix for tables field. Proceed to next step twice.
Fill in your administrator details and click next. Set the settings to your preferences.
