My Top Ten Linux Apps
We've all seen
those top 10 Linux Apps. This has been done
before, but, I thought that I'd make my list. You may find something
new.. or you may not. I am using Ubuntu with the Gnome Desktop
Environment so I will be listing the apps I use with that
AllTray
This can be a very useful app. Especially when you have loads of Terminal windows open. AllTray docks your windows into the gnome panel
Pidgin
You may ask why. It doesn't support Webcam and a load of other stuff but it's meant to be that way. As linux lovers we love simplisity in some programs, we don't want everything to be bulky. Pidgin is a simple, easy to use email chat client.
Amarok
Yes, I know!! It's a KDE app but I have had no problems running this under Gnome. It sorts all your music out, it looks great. It easily mounts your Ipod for easy file transfer. You'd think using it would make your computer lag but I haven't noticed any evidence of that.
Kompozer
kompozer is a Web Composer. Not much different from any others. It just happens to be my favourite.
Gambas
Gambas almost means basic... well that's what it tells you. I'm not sure exactly what that means but this is, in my opinion the best IDE for widget/frame programming.
Idle
I know you will probably ask why did you even bother putting this here but as an avid fan of python I haven't found any other interpreteur as good as this. Idle is simplistic yet it has all the stuff you need to create a simple python project. Most python interpreteurs are either to bulky or to simplistic this one is perfect for me
Apache
A free easy to setup web server. You can test your php projects with this or host your own websites. Apache with Php and MySQL is the web developers dream. You don't really need much more than that. Just a browser and html knowledge.
PhpMyAdmin
A php written program which helps you to easily administrate and create MySQL databases easily. Read this guide for help in setting it up.
Quanta
A great HTML editor. It is made for KDE but it works fine in gnome.
Monkey Bubble
Although I rarely play games and am against playing games on Linux, I think it distracts you from working on your projects. This is my favourite which I must admit to playing sometimes.
Now you have seen my list you probably will wonder why I left out a load of stuff but these are my top 10 recommended apps!!
